This artwork is handmade with two-sided paper strips that create a mesmerizing effect that appears to change color between teal and coral as you move around the piece.
The design is based off of a zentangle doodle called Paradox, which involves filling a square with straight lines at an angle. The paradox is that while it's made entirely of straight lines, it comes together to create curved lines that vortex into spirals.
I became intrigued by the idea of popping this design up into a 3D work of art with paper strips, and wanted to see what the effect would be like with two different colors of paper glued together.
The result is that you might find yourself saying "It changes colors!" but this reveals another paradox that the artwork doesn't change; it's statonary while you are the one moving around it. You say "it changes" but really you are the one who has changed.
To me, it's a reminder that any situation can change depending on how you look at it. Like a favorite book or song that you revisit at numerous touchpoints in your life and find different meaning in each time, this piece remains steadfast while providing a mirror to your changed experience as you move around it.
This piece contains 1,135 individual strips of paper that were carefully cut to size and placed at precise angles. It took over 60 hours to create.
This is a one-of-a-kind work of art and will not be replicated. You will own the only copy of this design in the world. There is only one available, so when it's sold, it's sold!
